The amylin receptor agonist salmon calcitonin (Bachem, #4033011) was dissolved in artificial cerebrospinal fluid (aCSF, Harvard Apparatus, #59-7316). Drug dose was selected based on previous studies showing that intra-VTA administration of 0.04 µg sCT suppresses ad libitum intake of fat and sucrose at the concentrations used in the present work (Mietlicki-Baase et al., 2017) and is subthreshold for prolonged effects on feeding when delivered directly to the cerebroventricle (Mietlicki-Baase et al., 2013) (1.8 mm for the oral cavity and 1.5 mm for the external washer).
