Bis(p-nitrophenyl) terephthalate (T-NP) [41 (link)], bis(p-nitrophenyl) 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate (N-NP) [42 ], bis(p-nitrophenyl) succinate (S-NP) [41 (link)], bis(p-nitrophenyl) glutarate (G-NP) [43 (link)], and bis(p-nitrophenyl) adipate (A-NP) [44 (link)], were prepared according to the literature.

Synthesis of Sustainable Solvents

Acetonitrile (HPLC grade, Merck, Germany), DMF, ethanol (HPLC grade), ethyl acetate, hexane, methanol (HPLC grade), glycerol, tetrahydrofuran (THF), toluene and common reagents were obtained from local suppliers. Cyrene from renewable cellulose was supported by Circa company (>99.0%, Australia). 2-Methyltetrahydrofuran (2-MeTHF) (purity >99.5%, biorenewable source) was purchased from Sigma Aldrich company, USA. TMO was synthesised in the laboratory according to the previous procedure. 12 Choline chloride (ChCl) (purity >98.0%), ethylene glycol (>99.5%) and 1,4-butanediol (99.0%) were obtained from Tokyo Chemical Industry, Japan.
