An Agilent 1100 Series chromatography system comprising a degasser, a quaternary pump, an autosampler, and a thermostatic column oven coupled to an Agilent 6410B Triple Quad MS/MS was employed throughout the study.
A 10-position multiple stirring plate model MS-M-S10 from DLAB Scientific Europe S.A.S (Schiltigheim, France) and NdFeB magnets (54MGO, 10 mm length × 3 mm diameter) from Supermagnete (Gottmadingen, Germany) were used for SBSDME.
A ZX3 vortex mixer from VELP Scientifica (Usmate Velate, Italy) and an Ultrasons-HD ultrasonic bath from JP Selecta (Barcelona, Spain) were used in the synthesis stage.
A Jenway 6305 UV/Vis spectrophotometer from Cole-Parmer Ltd (Staffordshire, UK) was used for the determination of creatinine in urine samples.
A Basic 20 pH meter from Crison (Alella, Spain) was used for the pH adjustments.
All those instruments used for characterization of the sorbent material are listed in ESM.

Preparing CPP-ACP Paste Recharging Solutions

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
To prepare the recharging solutions, CPP-ACP paste (Tooth Mousse, GC, Tokyo, Japan) (S1 Table) and deionized water were used at a ratio of 1:3 [33 (link)]. Each 5 ml of deionized water was stirred with 1.7 g CPP-ACP in a vortex machine (ZX3 Vortex Mixer, VELP Scientifica, Usmate Velate MB, Italy) at a power setting of 3 for 1 min [26 (link)]. Tooth Mousse contains 10% CPP-ACP with 325 mM calcium and 187 mM phosphate [34 (link), 35 ].

Biofilm Removal from Coupons

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
The coupons were placed in tubes with 3 mL of saline solution (85% (v:v) NaCl). The biofilm was removed by submitting the coupons to an ultrasonic treatment (45 kHz) for 2 min (VWR ultrasonic cleaner USC1700T, VWR, Leuven, Belgium), followed by 2 min of vortexing at 3000 rpm (ZX3 vortex mixer, VELP Scientifica®, Usmate (MB), Italy). The obtained biofilm suspension was used for the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) isolation, culturability, membrane integrity, cellular energy, and metabolic activity determination. Four coupons were used for the EPS determination, and the other four coupons were used for the viability tests.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
