Automated Blood Pressure Measurement

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Blood pressure was taken with participants seated comfortably with feet flat on the floor by a trained professional at baseline and 12 months. An automated BPI device (Omron HEM 907XL IntelliSense Professional Digital Blood Pressure Monitor, Omron, Kyoto Japan) was used. This device takes three consecutive measures 1 min apart (after a two-minute waiting period prior to the first measurement) and then takes an average.

Standardized Resting Blood Pressure Measurement

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
We obtain two resting blood pressure measures using the Omron HEM 907XL IntelliSense Professional Digital Blood Pressure Monitor, an automated sphygmomanometer. The patient remains seated without consuming caffeine or nicotine for 30 minutes prior to the measurement. We measure arm circumference first to determine the appropriate cuff size, then place the cuff snugly on the left upper arm with the bottom of the cuff approximately one inch above the inner elbow. The arm rests palm-up at heart level and the patient remains silent and still, with both feet on the floor, during the measurement. The average measurement is used for analysis. If the first two systolic or diastolic values differ by 5.0 mmHg or more, we remove and adjust the cuff, and repeat the two measures and the two closest measurements are averaged.

Dietary Intervention Effects on Hypertension

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
The secondary outcome measures were systolic (BP), dietary adherence, mindfulness affect, and perceived stress. Blood pressure was taken using an OMRON Hem 907XL IntelliSense Professional Digital Blood Pressure Monitor per protocol.15 (link) The average of three BP results was recorded.
The DASH Questionnaire (DASH Q)16 (link) has 11 items focused on the consumption of DASH foods (e.g., fruits, nuts, and vegetables) in the past seven days (Cronbach α = .83). The reference range for the DASH Q was 0–105 with higher scores indicating greater adherence to DASH diet. The Cognitive and Affective Mindfulness Scale (Cronbach α=.77)17 has 12 questions (reference range 0–48, higher scores indicate greater mindfulness affect) on a Likert scale regarding daily experiences such as “I rush through activities without being really attentive to them.” The Perceived Stress Scale has 10-items reference range 0–30 regarding stress over the past month (Cronbach α = 0.83).18 (link) The cut point for moderate to high stress is ≥12 for persons age 65 and older.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
