Benznidazole bz

Manufactured by Merck Group

Benznidazole (BZ) is a pharmaceutical compound primarily used as an antiparasitic agent. It functions as an inhibitor of the enzyme trypanothione reductase, which is essential for the survival of certain parasitic protozoa, such as Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas disease. Benznidazole is formulated as a tablet for oral administration.

Resazurin, Roswell Park Memorial Institute medium (RPMI 1640) without phenol red, and Hanks’ Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS), were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. Sytox Green® and H2CDFDA (2 ‘, 7′-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate) were purchased from Molecular Probes ® (Invitrogen ™). Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) was obtained from Gibco and gentamicin sulfate from Hipolabor Pharmaceuticals. Benznidazole (BZ) and sertraline (SERT) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. All other reagents not mentioned were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich.

Benznidazole Treatment in Chagas Mice

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Both infected and non-infected mice were injected intraperitoneally (IP) with 200 µl Benznidazole (Bz, Sigma) (100 mg per Kg body weight) diluted in 50% DMSO in PBS, for 20 consecutive days [13] (link). After the 20 day treatment, mice were allowed to recover for 20 days and then bled and euthanized for collecting heart and skeletal muscle samples. Data presented are from one experiment, representative of three independent experiments, performed for each of the two drug treatment models.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
