Formic acid was purchased from Panreac AppliChem (Barcelona, Spain). 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was obtained from Alfa Aesar (Ward Hill, MA, USA). Trolox (6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-2-carboxylic acid), and the sterol standards ergosterol (98%) and cholecalciferol (98%) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St Louis, MO, USA), along with acetic acid, phosphate buffered saline (PBS), sulforhodamine B (SRB), trypan blue, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), tris-(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane (TRIS), Dulbecco's Modified Eagle's Medium (DMEM), RPMI-1640 medium, fetal bovine serum (FBS), Hank's balanced salt solution (HBSS), L-glutamine, nonessential amino acid solution (2 mM), and penicillin/streptomycin solution. Also, the fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) reference standard mixture 37 (standard 47885-U) was purchased from Sigma (St Louis, MO, USA), as well as other individual fatty acid isomers and sugar standards. Mueller-Hinton agar (MH) and malt agar (MA) were obtained from the Institute of Immunology and Virology, Torlak (Belgrade, Serbia). All other chemicals and solvents were of analytical grade and purchased from common suppliers. Water was treated in a Milli-Q water purification system (TGI Pure Water Systems, Greenville, SC, USA).
