Oxiselect thiobarbituric acid reactive substance tbars assay kit

Manufactured by Cell Biolabs
Sourced in United States

The OxiSelect-thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS) assay kit is a colorimetric assay that quantifies malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of lipid peroxidation. The kit provides reagents and a protocol to measure MDA levels in biological samples.

1

Cellular Malondialdehyde Quantification

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Cellular malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were analyzed using the OxiSelect-thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS) assay kit (Cell Biolabs, San Diego, CA, USA) following the manufacturer's instructions.

Determination of Brain MDA Levels

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
The brain samples were homogenized in PBS (pH 7.4) including heparin and 1X BHT for the determination of MDA levels. The MDA in the brains was measured using the Oxiselect thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS) assay kit containing thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (Cell Biolabs, San Diego, CA, USA). Each sample was expressed as micromoles per mg protein according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The total protein concentration was measured before the MDA assay using the Pierce® BCA Protein Assay kit (Thermo, Rockford, USA).

Measuring Lipid Peroxidation in Serum and Mucosa

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Malondialdehyde content in serum and mucosa was measured using an OxiSelect thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) Assay Kit (Cell Biolabs, Inc., San Diego, CA) as an index of lipid peroxidation (Kim et al., 2019 (link)). All the procedures followed the instruction of the manufacturer. Concentration of MDA in serum was expressed as micromoles per milliliter, and concentration of MDA in mucosal tissue was expressed as micromoles per milliliter of protein.

Lipid Peroxidation Measurement in Plasma and Tissue

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
In order to determine the level of oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation product levels in plasma and left ventricular (LV) tissue collected at the time of sacrifice were measured by estimating the amount of malondialdehyde using the oxiselect thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) assay kit (Cell Biolabs, San Diego, CA, USA) as described by us earlier by following the manufacturer’s instructions (18 (link)). Values were expressed as nmol/mL for plasma and nmol/mg protein for LV tissue.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
