Primary antibodies were rabbit and mouse anti-neuronal class III β-tubulin (clone TUJ-1, Covance, NJ, USA), rabbit anti-GFAP (DakoCytomation, Ely, UK), mouse anti-5′-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine (BrdU; Millipore, Watford, UK), and anti-GAP-43 (Invitrogen, CA, USA).
