HSA (fatty acid free) and
GnHCl were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich and were used as received.
DACIA was purchased from Molecular Probes Inc. and was used as received.
Coumarin-343, 4-dimethylamino pyridine, N,N-dicyclohexyl carbodiimide, and 4-nitrophenol were bought
from Sigma-Aldrich and were used as received for the synthesis of
NPCE as reported earlier.39 (link) Analytical
grade disodium hydrogen phosphate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate
were purchased from Merck, India, and used to prepare 50 mM buffer
(pH 7.4). Dialysis membrane tubing (14 kDa cutoff) was purchased from
Sigma-Aldrich and used after removing the glycerol and sulfur compounds
according to the procedure given by Sigma-Aldrich. Centrifugal filter
units (Amicon Ultra, 10 kDa cutoff) were purchased from Merck Millipore,
Germany. HSA was tagged with DACIA and NPCE following the already
reported procedure (Scheme 2).39 (link),41 (link) High-performance liquid chromatography
grade dimethyl sulfoxide and dichloromethane were purchased from Spectrochem,
India.

Human serum albumin (HSA, essentially fatty acid free) and tetramethylrhodamine-5-maleimide (TMR) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich, USA and used as received. Analytical grade di-sodium hydrogen phosphate and sodium di-hydrogen phosphate were purchased from Merck, India and used to prepare 50 mM buffer (pH 7.4). Docusate sodium salt (AOT) was purchased from Sigma and used after drying under vacuum for 24 hours each time before solution preparation. Dialysis membrane tubing (12 kDa cut-off) was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich, USA and used after removing the glycerol and sulfur compounds according to the procedure given by Sigma-Aldrich. Centrifugal filter units (Amicon Ultra, 10 kDa cut-off) have been purchased from Merck Millipore, Germany.

Hydroxyethyl cellulose, (HEC)
commercially available as Natrosol 250 GR, was purchased from Ashland.
According to the supplier information, this HEC is characterized by
an average molar substitution of 2.5 (moles of ethylene oxide per
single anhydroglucose unit) and an average molecular weight of approximately
300,000 Da. 2-Propanol (>99%), acetone (>99%), glacial acetic
acid,
sodium hydroxide, glycidyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (GTAC, >90%),
hexadecyl glycidyl ether (GHE, >98%), and dialysis membrane tubing
(3500 Da MWCO) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. Lauryl glycidyl
ether (LGE, >98%) and 2-ethylhexyl glycidyl ether (GXE, >98%)
were
purchased from TCI chemicals. Dirty motor oil was acquired from Warwick
Equest. A typical laundry formulation without soil-release polymers
was provided by P&G (Newcastle Innovation Centre). All chemicals
were used without further purification.

Characterization of Phytoglycogen Nanoparticles

Materials. PhG NPs were kindly provided by MIREXUS Biotecnologies Inc., following their extraction from sweet corn kernels, purification and subsequent characterization. 27 Aqueous dispersions of PhG NPs were prepared by dispersing them in deionized water (resistivity 18.2 MΩ cm, from the Milli-Q Water Purification System). The dispersion was further purified by dialysis against deionized water using a cellulose acetate membrane (Sigma Aldrich Dialysis Membrane Tubing, with molecular-weight cut-off 12 kDa) for seven days, with water replacement twice a day. The final concentration of the PhG NPs in the dispersion (7.8 mg mL -1 ) was determined by measuring NPs dry mass. The dispersion was diluted to 20-1000 μg mL -1 PhG concentrations prior to the experiments. For the surface force and atomic force imaging experiments, Grade 1 ruby-mica was supplied by S&J Trading. Platinum wire (99.99 %) with diameter 0.25 mm was purchased from Sigma Aldrich Canada.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
