Synthesis of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

All chemicals were of analytical grade and used directly as received from the manufacturers without additional purification. Zinc chloride (ZnCl2, purity >99.5, Lach-Ner, Neratovice, Czech Republic) was used as a zinc source, sodium hydroxide (NaOH, purity >98%, Carlo Erba Reagents) as a precipitating agent, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB, C19H42BrN, Alfa Aesar, Ward Hill, MA, USA) as a cationic surfactant and triblock copolymer Pluronic F127 (EO106PO70EO106, Sigma-Aldrich) was employed as a nonionic surfactant. Distilled water was used as the solvent and for powder rinsing, while absolute ethanol (C2H5OH, 96%, Zorka Pharma, Serbia) was used for final rinsing.

For the synthesis of MSN, deionized water with a resistivity of 18.2 MΩ•cm was used. For all other experiments double distilled water was employed.

Pluronic F127 and Dopamine Hydrogel Synthesis

The lactate assay kit was brought from Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute. Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), the Annexin V-FITC Apoptosis Detection Kit, and the Calcium Colorimetric Assay Kit were obtained from Beyotime Biotechnology Co., Ltd. Anti-CD16/32, anti-CD45-PE, anti-CD11b-APC, anti-CD11c-APC anti-F4/80-PE/Cy7, anti-CD80-FITC, anti-CD206-PE, anti-CD86-PE, anti-MHCII-V450, anti-CD3-APC, anti-CD4-FITC, and anti-CD8-PE/Cy7 were purchased from BioLegend. ELISA kits were purchased from Dakewei Biotech Co., Ltd.
All chemicals were of analytical grade and used without further purification. Deionized water (18.2 MΩ·cm resistivity at 25 °C) was used for all experiments.

A human BMP-2 ELISA kit, tetracycline hydrochloride and Pluronic®F-127 (EO106PO70EO106) were purchased from Sigma–Aldrich (USA).
All experimental animals were obtained from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Agriculture and Biology. The animal experiments were performed in strict accordance with the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and all procedures were carried out by the Animal Research Committee of Sixth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (License number: SCXK (Hu) 2017-0007, SYXK (Hu) 2018-0006; Animal research ethics number: NO.
