Atovaquone was purchased from Molekula (Irvine, CA, USA). Benzyl benzoate and polyethylene glycol (PEG) (average mol weight 200) were purchased from Sigma Chemical Co. (St. Louis, MO, USA). Isopropyl palmitate was purchased from Spectrum Laboratory Products, Inc. (New Brunswick, NJ, USA). Mineral oil, propylene glycol, and oleic acid were purchased from Fisher Scientific (Pittsburgh, PA, USA). Affinisol HPMC HME 15 LV was kindly donated from Dow Pharma & Food Solutions (Midland, MI, USA). Super-refined polysorbate 80-LQ-(MH), super-refined polysorbate 20-LQ-(MH), and super-refined PEG 400-LQ-(MH) were kindly donated from CRODA Inc. (East Yorkshire, UK). (Jamesville, Rock County, WI, USA). Capryol 90, Transcutol HP, Labrafac lipophile WL 1349, Labrafil M 2125 CS, and Labrasol were obtained from Gattefosse SAS (Paramus, NJ, USA). All other chemical reagents used were of analytical grade.

Atazanavir Solubility Optimization

Capmul® PG-12 EP/NF, Captex® 100, and Captex® 300 were obtained from Abitech Corporations (Cleveland, OH, USA). The surfactants like span 20, tween 80, and tween 20 were procured from Merck (Hohenbrunn, Germany). Poloxamer 188, Poloxamer 407, and Cremophor RH 40 were acquired from BASF (Mumbai, India). Sesame oil, canola oil, and castor oil were acquired from the central drug house (Mumbai, India). Water, methanol, and acetonitrile for HPLC were procured from Fischer Scientific Co. (Mumbai, India). Purified water used for all experiments was obtained from Milli Q Plus (Millipore, MA, USA). Rest of the chemicals and reagents were procured from S.D. Fine Chemicals Ltd. (Mumbai, India). Freshly prepared buffer solutions were used for all experiments.

Cytotoxicity Evaluation of Lipid-Based Formulations

Sunflower oil, oleic acid, castor oil and peanut oil were obtained from local suppliers. Deionized water and analytical grade chemicals were used in each step of the experiments, where the chemicals were used without further purification.

Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM), nonessential amino acids, fetal bovine serum (FBS), antibiotics (penicillin-streptomycin), and all other reagents used in cell culture studies were obtained from Thermo Fisher Scientific (Waltham, MA, USA). Other chemicals and solvents were purchased from Merck KGaA (Darmstadt, Germany). All solvents were of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) grade.
Caco-2 cells (human epithelial colorectal adenocarcinoma cells) were purchased from the Korean Cell Line Bank (Seoul, Korea). Caco-2 cells were grown in DMEM containing 10% FBS, 1% nonessential amino acid, and 1% antibiotics. Cells were incubated at 37 °C in an atmosphere of 5% CO2 and 90% relative humidity.
