Quantification of Macrolide Antibiotics

AZI, ERY-IE, ERY-OX and CLA were kindly supplied by Pliva (Croatia), while ROX was acquired from Sigma-Aldrich (Germany). The remaining eight target compounds, as well as deuterated azithromycin (AZI-d3) and deuterated clarithromycin (CLA-d3), used as internal standards, were purchased from Toronto Research Chemicals (Canada).
HPLC grade methanol (MeOH) and acetonitrile (ACN) were purchased from BDH Prolabo (UK), acetone from Merck (Germany), anhydrous ammonia solution (7 N in MeOH) from Alfa Aesar (Germany), and ACS grade formic acid, as well as quartz sand (SiO2), from Sigma-Aldrich. Ultrapure water was produced by Elix-Milli-Q system (Millipore, USA). Cellulose filters (type D28), used for pressurized liquid extraction (PLE), were produced by Dionex Corporation (USA) and regenerated cellulose filters (0.45 µm), used for the final extract filtration, by Waters (USA). HPLC column ACE C18 PFP (150 × 3 mm; 3 μm) was purchased from Advanced Chromatography Technologies (UK).

Quantification of Emerging Pollutants

Acetaminophen, bezafibrate, bisphenol A, butylparaben, chloramphenicol, clofibric acid, diclofenac, ethylparaben, flufenamic acid, gemfibrozil, ibuprofen, indomethacin, methylparaben, naproxen, propylparaben, salicylic acid, thiamphenicol, triclocarban, triclosan and warfarin from Sigma-Aldrich (The Woodlands,Texas, USA) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and 11-nor-9-carboxy-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC-COOH) from LoGiCal (Luckenwalde, Germany) were used as target analytes for QqQ analysis. Calibration standards were prepared by serial dilution of the mixed working solution. Stock and working solutions were stored at −20 °C in the dark [10] (link).
Water used for preparation of calibration standards and LC–MS mobile phase was purified by an Elix Milli-Q system (Millipore, Billerica, MA, USA). Methanol was purchased from Panreac (Castellar del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain) and formic acid was purchased from Amresco (Solon, OH, USA). Ammonium fluoride was acquired from Alfa Aesar GmbH & Co KG (Karlsruhe, Germany).

Analytical Procedures for Biodegradation Compounds

Difco LB agar was obtained from BD (USA). Ammonium chloride (purity > 99.5%) was purchased from Grammol (Zagreb, Croatia). Formic acid (LC-MS grade) and ammonium formate (purity ≥ 99%) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. All other chemicals used for biodegradation media were of analytical grade purity and supplied by Kemika (Zagreb, Croatia). LC-MS grade solvents (acetonitrile and methanol) were products of J.T. Baker (Deventer, the Netherlands).
Ultrapure water was produced using an Elix-Milli-Q system (Millipore, Bedford, MA, USA).
Solid-phase extraction (SPE) cartridges Oasis HLB (60 mg/3 mL) were supplied by Waters (Milford, MA, USA). The individual stock solutions (10 mg/mL and 1 mg/mL) of MTHD were prepared in LC-MS grade methanol.

Tramadol Quantification by LC-MS

Sulfuric acid (95-97%) was purchased from Merck. Ultrapure water was produced using an Elix-Milli-Q system (Millipore, Bedford, MA, USA).
