Aicda−/− (Muramatsu et al., 2000 (link)), Mb1cre/cre (Hobeika et al., 2006 (link)) and Vav-Bcl2 (Egle et al., 2004 (link)) mice were respectively, kindly provided by Tasuku Honjo (University of Kyoto, Japan), Alexander Tarakhovsky (Rockefeller University, USA) and Ari Melnick (Weill Cornell Medical School). Aicdacre/cre mice (Robbiani et al., 2008 (link)) were obtained from the Nussenzweig lab (Rockefeller University,USA). Generation of Chd4fl/fl mice was described previously (Williams et al., 2004 (link)). Cd19cre/cre, Cd21cre, p53fl/fl and C57BL/6J were purchased from the Jackson Laboratories (Bar Harbor, ME). 8–16 week old mice of both sexes were used and whenever possible littermates were used as controls. Mice used in the experiments were maintained in specific pathogen free conditions in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center vivarium according to the institutional guidelines.

Genetically Engineered Mouse Models

been imported from the NCI mouse repository and the Jackson Laboratories.
Wim Declercq (Ghent University, Belgium) generated the
Rosa26-ΔNp63-IRES-GFP. NOD/SCID/Il2Rγ null mice were
purchased from Charles River.
All mice used in this study were composed of males and females with
mixed genetic background. Mouse colonies were maintained in a certified
animal facility in accordance with the European guidelines and with approved
ethical protocol (#483N).

Genetic Mouse Models for Lung Cancer

Mouse models harboring a conditional Kras mutant allele (KrasLSL-G12D/+) or loss-of-function TRp53 allele (p53fl/fl) were procured from the Jackson laboratories. Mouse models harboring loss-of-function Stk11/Lkb1 allele (Lkb1fl/fl) were received from Ron DePinho (MD Anderson). Around 10 week old KL and KP mice were intranasally administered with progenitor cell-directed Ad5-Cre viruses.21 (link) Moribund mice were sacrificed by cervical dislocation, and tumor-bearing lungs were processed for FUTC-based pharmacological profiling. All mice used in this study were housed in the Laboratory Animal Center of the University of Helsinki. The facility provided animal care services including feeding, cage cleaning, health assessment, and room sanitation. Animals of both sexes were utilized for this work.
