Characterization of Organic Pollutant Profiles

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Pesticide (alachlor, alpha-BHC, chlorpyrifos, and endrin ketone) and PAH (anthracene, benzo[ghi]perylene, chrysene, and fluoranthene) compounds were selected to represent a range physicochemical properties (Table 1). All were of purity ≥ 98% (Accustandard, USA). Tetrachloro-meta-xylene and PCB-209 (Accustandard, USA) were used as extraction surrogate standards for pesticides, and phenanthrene-d10, fluoranthene-d10, chrysene-d12, and benzo[ghi]perylene-d12 were used for PAHs (CDN Isotopes, Canada). Internal standards 4,4′-dibromooctafluorobiphenyl (Supelco Analytical, USA) and perylene-d12 (Chemservice, USA) were added immediately before instrumental analysis to correct for instrument variation (Table 2). Hexane solvents were Optima grade or better (Fisher Chemical, USA). PTFE transport/storage bags and Clip N Seal closures were purchased from Welch Fluorocarbon, Inc. (USA). LDPE lay-flat tubing used to make passive samplers was purchased from Brentwood Plastics, Inc. (USA). Average width of tubing is 2.7 cm, average membrane thickness is 75–95 μm, and average transient polymer cavity size is 10 Å (Anderson et al. 2008 (link)).

All solvents were purchased from Fisher Scientific (Pittsburgh, PA, USA). Methanol, isopropanol, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and hydrochloric acid (HCl) were ACS grade. Ethyl acetate was Optima and n-hexane was GC-Resolv. Standards were purchased at >99% purity. Tetrachloro-m-xylene (TCMX) was from Supelco (Bellefonte, PA, USA), polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-100, PCB-209, and p,p’-dibromooctafluorobiphenyl were from Accustandard (New Haven, CN, USA), and PCB-65-d5, PCB-115-d3, and PCB-156-d3 were from C/D/N Isotopes (Pointe-Claire, QC, Canada). Water was filtered through an in-house 18 MΩ*cm purification system (Millipore, Merck, Darmstadt, Germany).

Analytical Standards for Persistent Organic Pollutants

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Analytical grade native standards for OCPs, PCB209 and Tetrachlorometaxylene (TCmX), were purchased from AccuStandard (America). All solutions were stored at -20ºC. Hexane, Dichloromethane (DCM), Ethanol, Acetone were also analytical grade reagents (Merck). Pure Nitrogen gas was purchased from a local gas station (Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan). Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) columns were obtained from SILICYCLEInc. (SPEC-R31830B-06P, CERTIFIED SiliaPrep M C18, 500mg/6mL) and were used for the cleanup. Apparatus used for this study included: micropipette, pipette, sonicator (Model PS-20A), centrifuge machine (Model 800 Electronic Centrifuge), vials stand, rotary evaporator. Glassware used during this study included: centrifugation vials, septa vials and glass tubes.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
