Synthesis and Characterization of Polycaprolactone

ε-Caprolactone (εCL) (98%, Sigma-Aldrich,
Sweden) was dried over calcium hydride for at least 24 h and subsequently
distilled at reduced pressure under an inert gas atmosphere prior
to use. All of the other chemicals were used as received. These chemicals
included initiators (i.e., benzyl alcohol (≥99%, Sigma-Aldrich,
Sweden) and 2-naphthalene ethanol (98%, Sigma-Aldrich, Sweden)), catalysts
(i.e., 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]-dec-5-ene (TBD) (98%, Sigma-Aldrich,
Sweden)), and a phosphazene base P2-tBu
solution (P2-tBu, ∼2 M in THF,
Sigma-Aldrich, Sweden). In addition, sodium hydride (NaH) (60% dispersion
in mineral oil, Sigma-Aldrich, Sweden), diethyl carbonate (99%, Sigma-Aldrich,
Sweden), trimethylolpropane allyl ether (98%, Sigma-Aldrich, Sweden),
acetic acid (technical, Fisher Scientific, Germany), acetic acid anhydride
(ReagentPlus, ≥ 99%, Sigma-Aldrich, Sweden),
triethylamine (TEA) (≥99%, Sigma-Aldrich, Sweden), dichloromethane
(anhydrous, ≥ 99.8%, Sigma-Aldrich, Sweden) chloroform (HPLC
grade, Fisher Scientific, Germany), chloroform-d (99.8%,
with silver foil, Cambridge Isotope Laboratories), and methanol (general
purpose grade, Fischer Scientific, Germany) were used.

Fabrication of Epoxy-Based Composites

The monomers diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA, MW: 340.41 g/mol), glutaric anhydride (GA, MW: 114.10 g/mol), and 1,5,7-Triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD, MW: 139.20 g/mol) were purchased from Sigma Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA) and used as received without further purification. Methyl tetrahydrophthalic anhydride (MTHPA, MW: 166.17 g/mol) was obtained from Jining Huakai Resin Co. (Shandong, China). Ethylene glycol (EG) and N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidinone (NMP) were ordered from Adamas Reagent Co., Ltd (Shanghai, China). 2,4,6-Tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol (DMP-30, MW: 265.39 g/mol; Shanghai Macklin Biochemical Co., Ltd, China) was selected as the accelerant to fabricate pure epoxy resin. The chemical structures of above monomers are shown in Fig. S1 (Supporting Information). Iron (III) chloride (Shanghai Aladdin Bio-Chem Technology Co., Ltd) was used to etch the electronic circuits. The commonly used type 7628 glass fabric in the electronics industry was obtained from Feipufu Co. (Beijing, China) to fabricate composites. The plain weave fiberglass cloth has a thickness of ~0.20 mm.

Ester-type TPU (Neothane 5285 AP) was obtained from Dong Sung Corporation (Busan, South Korea), and ether-type TPU (Desmopan 9395AU) was purchased from Covestro Deutschland AG (Leverkusen, Germany). Average molecular weights of TPUs determined by Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) are given in Table S1. Sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3, 98%), sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3, 99%), sodium chloride (NaCl, 99%), and anhydrous sodium sulfate (Na2SO4, 99%) were purchased from Aldrich Chemical (Yongin City, South Korea). The solvents used in this work, including dichloromethane (CH2Cl2, 99%) and dimethylformamide (DMF, 99%), were supplied by Samchun Pure Chemical (Pyeongtaek-si, South Korea). All materials were used without further purification. The typical structures of TPUs are shown in Scheme 1.

Synthesis and Characterization of COP

2-Chloro-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphospholane (COP) was synthesized, distilled under vacuum and stored at −20 °C.23 (link) Tetrahydrofuran (THF) purchased from Alfa Aesar in Shanghai was used after distillation. After purification by phthalic anhydride, sodium hydroxide and calcium hydride, triethylamine (TEA, Aladdin) was distilled for subsequent studies. All other undeclared reagents and solvents were of analytical grade and used as received.

All reagents and solvents were used without further purification. The reactions were carried out in atmospheric air and synthesised products were stored at 4 °C in the dark until they were used.
