Pyrazine and Odorant Mixtures for Behavioral Studies

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
The P-mix was composed of equal volumes of 2,6-dimethylpyrazine, 2,3-diethyl-5-methylpyrazine and 2,3,5-trimethylpyrazine (Tokyo Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan). In the present study, 2,3-diethyl-5-methylpyrazine was used as a P-mix constituent instead of 3-ethyl-2,5-dimethyl pyrazine, which was previously included in a pyrazine cocktail to induce avoidance and fear-related behaviors in mice and deer (Osada et al., 2013 ; 2014 (link)). A large amount of 2,3-diethyl-5-methylpyrazine was contained in wolf urine (#21 in Table 1; Osada et al., 2013 ). Exposure to 2,3-diethyl-5-methylpyrazine alone induces freezing in mice (Osada et al., 2017 (link)). The time spent immobilized by mice after exposure to P-mix was similar to that to the previous one (data not shown). The O-mix was composed of equal volumes of linalool, R(+)-limonene and i-amyl acetate (Wako, Japan). These odorants have been used in studies of the rat olfactory system (Xu et al., 2000 (link); Briand et al., 2000 (link); Clarin et al., 2010 (link)).

Analysis of Green Coffee Volatiles and Dicarbonyls

Check if the same lab product or an alternative is used in the 5 most similar protocols
Green coffee beans (C. arabica Sitio Chapada from Brazil and C. robusta from Vietnam) were purchased from Trini Coffee (Goyang, Korea). DL-Malic acid (≥98%), citric acid (≥98%), L-(+)-tartaric acid (≥99.5%), and succinic acid (≥99%) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). Green coffee beans and organic acid powder were stored at room temperature.
For the analysis of volatile flavor compounds, C7 − C40 n-alkane standard and a divinylbenzene/Carboxen/Polydimethylsiloxane (50 μm DVB/CAR/PDMS) solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber were purchased from Supelco, Inc. (Bellefonte, PA, USA). Hexane, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-grade water, and HPLC-grade ethyl acetate were purchased from J.T. Baker (Philipsburg, NJ, USA). Sodium chloride (NaCl) was purchased from Samchun (Seoul, Korea). Quinoxaline, 2-methyl pyrazine, 2,5-dimethyl pyrazine, 2,6-dimethyl pyrazine, ethyl pyrazine, 2-ethyl-6-methyl pyrazine, furfural, 2-acetyl furan, furfuryl acetate, 5-methyl furfural, and furfuryl alcohol were purchased from Tokyo Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan).
For the analysis of α-DCs, MGO (purity 40%), DA (purity 97%), o-phenylenediamine, and 1-methylpyrazole were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. GO (purity 39%) was purchased from Tokyo Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. HPLC-grade water and HPLC-grade ethyl acetate were purchased from J.T. Baker.

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
