The active pharmaceutical ingredient of epalrestat (purity > 99.5%) was obtained from Ningxia Kangya Pharmaceutical Industry (China). Acetonitrile and methanol of HPLC grade were purchased from Fisher (Fair lawn, NJ, USA). N,N-dimethyl formamide was obtained from Shandong Yuwang Industrial Co., Ltd (Shandong, China). Ammonium acetate (HPLC grade) was obtained from Dikma (Richmond Hill, NY, USA). Sodium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium phosphate monobasic and sodium phosphate dibasic dodecahydrate were purchased from Tianjin Kemiou Chemical Reagent Co., Ltd (Tianjin, China). Hydrochloric acid was obtained from Tianjin Kaixin Chemical Reagent Manufacturing Co., Ltd (Tianjin, China). H2O2 (30%), sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride were purchased from Tianjin Hengxing Chemical Reagent Manufacturing Co., Ltd (Tianjin, China). Ultra-pure water from Wahaha (Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China) was used. All other reagents and chemicals used were of analytical grade and are commercially available.
