>99.5%) was distilled prior to use.

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) (saponification degree: 78 -82 mol%), valinomycin (K + ionophore), HCl, KOH, KCl, NaCl, and NaH were purchased from Wako Pure Chemicals (Osaka, Japan).
