Synthesis and Characterization of Gold Nanoparticles

All chemicals were used as received without further purification. The following chemicals were received from Sigma Aldrich, Inc. (St. Louis, MO, USA): gold(III) chloride trihydrate (HAuCl4⋅3H2O, ≥99.9%, trace metals basis), L-glutathione reduced (GSH, ≥98.0%), 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl chloride (Fmoc chloride, 97%), tetrahydrofuran (THF, ≥99.9%, anhydrous), dopamine hydrochloride, potassium nitrate (KNO3, 99.999%), phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) buffer, 1-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]-3-ethylcarbodiimide methiodide (EDC), N-hydroxy-succinimide (NHS, 98%), triethylamine (TEA, ≥99%), gold standard for ICP (1000 mg/L Au in HCl), and deuterium oxide (D2O, 99.9 atom % D). Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3, ≥99.0%) was obtained from Daejung Inc. (Gyeonggi, Korea). Hydrochloric acid (HCl, 35.0~37.0%) and nitric acid (HNO3, 60.0%) were purchased from Samchun Chemical Co., Ltd. (Seoul, Korea). Amicon® Ultra-4 centrifugal ultrafiltration filters (3 kDa MWCO) were purchased from Merck Millipore Corp. (Danvers, MA, USA). Deionized water (DI water, 18 MΩ⋅cm) was used in the preparation of aqueous solutions (Aquapuri541, YOUNG IN Chromass, Gyeonggi, Korea).

Monocrystalline Si Cantilever Arrays

Octosensis microcantilever arrays (chips
with eight monocrystalline Si cantilevers, 500 μm in length)
were obtained from Micromotive GmbH (Mainz, Germany). The following
chemicals were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich and used as received without
further purification: isopropanol, (3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane
(98%); toluene (99.8%); Nα,Nα-bis(carboxymethyl)-l-lysine
hydrate (NTA–NH2) (97%); 1-[(3-dimethylamino)propyl]-3-ethylcarbodiimide
methiodide (EDC); N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS), 2-(N-morpholino)ethanesulfonic acid (MES); 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol
(Tris base); carbonate/bicarbonate buffer; and phosphate buffered
saline (PBS, pH 7.4). Sodium chloride was purchased from Panreac (Spain).
BSA (fraction V) and LYS were purchased from BioLabs (England) and
Fluka, respectively. The Omp2a protein was expressed, purified, and
