Potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7, 97%) and humic acid (C9H9NO6, 99%) were obtained from Sigma-Aldrich. Zinc chloride (ZnCl2, 97%), magnesium chloride hexahydrate (MgCl2.6H2O, 99%), sodium nitrate (NaNO3, 98%), copper chloride dihydrate (CuCl2.2H2O, 99%), sodium sulfate (Na2SO4, 99%), sodium phosphate dodecahydrate (Na3PO4.12H2O, 99%) and sodium carbonate dehydrate (Na2CO3.10H2O, 98%) were purchased from Loba Chemie (India). All chemicals were of high purity and used directly without any modifications.

Synthesizing Chitosan-Based Nanoparticles

In this research, zinc chloride (ZnCl2, 98% purity), sodium hydroxide (NaOH, 98% purity) purchased from Lobachemie, isopropyl alcohol (2-propanol; 99.8% purity), sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP, 85% purity), low molecular weight chitosan (1 × 106 g mol−1) with a degree of deacetylation of 75%, and a viscosity of 494 cP acquired from Sigma-Aldrich® and glacial acetic acid (CH3COOH; 100% purity, diluted to 1% v/v) purchased from Supelco® were used.

Pesticide Extraction and Quantification

Nickel chloride (99%), zinc chloride (99%), sodium hydroxide (< 90%), and potassium dichromate were purchased from LOBA Chemie, India. Malathion and γ-HCH was purchased from Sigma Aldrich, Germany. From the local University campus, Azadirachta indica leaves were collected. The whole experimental process was performed with deionized water (aqua MAX-Barie 360 series; resistivity 18.2MΩcm -1 ). A stock solution of MLT and γ-HCH having a concentration of 1000 mg L -1 was also prepared.
