When patients were hospitalized, blood samples were collected and taken into tubes containing 0.1% EDTA for serum analyses at the first time. Serum complement C1q (mg/L) levels were measured by immunity transmission turbidimetry using Siemens BNII instrument, the concentrations of relevant lipoprotein markers, such as total cholesterol (TC) (mmol/L), total triglycerides (TG) (mmol/L), LDL-C (mmol/L), HDL-C (mmol/L), very-low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) and Lipoprotein (a) (mg/dL) were measured by electro-chemiluminescence immunoassay (Roche Diagnostics, Indianapolis, IN). Plasma haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) (%), creatine (CREA) (μmol/L) and other laboratorial parameters were measured by a biochemical analyzer according to standard test protocols (Hitachi-7600, Tokyo, Japan).

Assays used in the calculation of the BioPredictive algorithms were run on routine automated platforms using standard reagents. Total cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, ALT, AST, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) and total bilirubin were run on a Beckman Coulter (Beckman Coulter, Brea, California, USA) AU series instruments. Haptoglobin, alpha-2-macroglobulin and apo A1 were run on the Siemens (Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Tarrytown, New York, USA) BNII instrument.

Blood samples were collected after at least 8 h overnight fasting. TC, LDL-C, FPG, HbA1C, plasma triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), uric acid (UA) and cystatin C (Cys C) were measured by standard method in the clinical laboratory of the same hospital. Plasma hsCRP was analyzed by immunophelometry method using Siemens hsCRP immumoreagent on a Siemens BNII instrument.

(Alifax). Complement component 3 (C3) and 4 (C4) were analyzed on BNII instrument (Siemens Healthcare) that uses the nephelometric technology. Prothrombin time and plasma fibrinogen concentration were analyzed on BCS-XP coagulometer (Siemens Healthcare).
Albumin/globulin ratio was determined using the CAPILLARYS electrophoresis instrument (Sebia).
Lipid profile analytes including total cholesterol, high density lipoproteins (HDL) and triglycerides were determined by specific colorimetric enzymatic methods on Cobas 6000 system (Roche Diagnostic). Urine pH and urinary specific gravity values were determined by using Atlas instrument (Siemens Healthcare), and urine sediment was analyzed on Iris instrument (Beckman Coulter). The differential count of leukocytes was performed on the automated cell counters Sysmex-XE 2100 (Dasit) (Supplementary Table 1).

About PubCompare

Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.

We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.

However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
