Ethanediamine (EDA, 99%), formaldehyde (30–40%), ethyl alcohol (99.7%), 3-aminophenol (99%), ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA·2Na, 99%), H2SO4 (95–98%), HCl (36–38%), NH3·H2O (25–28%), and BaCl2·2H2O (99.5%) were purchased from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent (Shanghai, China). NaOH (96%) and Na2SO4 (99%) were purchased from Shanghai Dahe Chemicals (Shanghai, China). NaH2PO4·2H2O (99%), and Na2HPO4·12H2O (99%) were purchased from Chinasun Specialty Product (Changshu, China). Tetraethoxysilane (TEOS, 99%), catalase (from bovine liver, 2000–5000 units/mg protein), 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB, 98%), and peroxidase from horseradish (HRP, ~200 units/mg) were purchased from Sigma–Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). All chemicals were used without further purification.

Characterization of Potassium Sulfate Fertilizer

Agricultural potassium sulfate (LN K2SO4) was obtained from SDIC Xinjiang Lop Nur Potash Co. Ltd., China. Chemical grade polyethylene glycol 1000 (PEG 1000), sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), and analytical grade reagents for gravimetric methods and Volhard method (sodium tetraphenylborate, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt, ammonium iron sulfate, BaCl2 and AgNO3) were purchased from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Co. Ltd. Industrial grade urea phosphate (UP) was purchased from Tianjin Kemiou Chemical Reagent Co. Ltd. Tap water was used in all experiments and its physicochemical properties are shown in Table 1. The concentration of metal ions (K+, Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+) was determined by an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS, AA-6880 SHIMADZU, Japan). The concentration of SO42− and Cl anions was determined by the barium chloride gravimetric method and the Volhard method, respectively.

Hydrogel-Based Tissue Engineering Methodology

Photoinitiator 1173 (HMPP), PEGDA, alginate (low viscosity, Alfa Aesar), calcium chloride (CaCl2), calcein-AM/PI (CA-PI), ALP, pepsin, pancreatin, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and phosphate buffer saline (PBS) were bought from Aladdin. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) was bought from Nanjing Chemical Reagent Co., Ltd. Green fluorescent protein (GFP) was bought from Solarbio. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt was bought from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Co. Ltd. A high voltage power supply was gained from Gamma High Voltage Research. Caco-2 cells, Bovine Serum albumin-FITC, ALP kit (KGT043) and fibroblasts were gained from Keygene Company. Cells were cultured in Eagle's Minimum Essential Medium (EMEM, Gibco, USA) under the condition of 37 °C and 5% CO2. The 8-12-week male mice were from Jinling Hospital. All animals were treated in strict accordance with the recommendations in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of the National Institutes of Health, USA. All animals' experimental protocols and care were reviewed and approved by Animal Investigation Ethics Committee of the Jinling Hospital.

Approximately 350 fresh duck (Anas platyrhucus) eggs weighing
65–75 g, which were retrieved within 3 days of laying. RE was bought from
Henan Yuzhong Biotechnology, China. RE was extracted from dried rosemary
(Rosmarinus oficinalis L.) which is
water-soluble/oil-soluble materials (supplementary Fig. S1). In addition, the
extract contains the main components such as rosmanol, carnosol, and carnosic
acid. Moreover, the studied RE composition is in agreement with Nakatani and Inatani (1981) (link), Zhang et al. (2010) (link), and Rocío Teruel et al. (2015) (link) who
proved that carnosol, rosmanol, and carnosic acid are the main compound in the
RE.

All reagents were of analytical grade.
