Apoptosis was measured using the Annexin V binding assay kit from BD Biosciences according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Briefly, at the end of the treatment, cells were washed with PBS and 1 × 10⁶ cells were re-suspended in 100 μl of binding buffer. Fluorescein isothiocycanate (FITC)-labelled Annexin V (5 μl) and propidium iodide (10 μ were added to each sample and incubated in the dark for 15 min at room temperature. The cells were subsequently analysed by flow cytometry using BD Accuri, the C6 flow cytometer and its software. Data from 10 000 events per sample were collected and analysed.
