All chemicals were purchased from commercial suppliers and used without further purification, unless otherwise mentioned. Copper nitrate trihydrate [Cu(NO3)2·3H2O, 99%], zinc nitrate hexahydrate [Zn(NO3)2·6H2O, 98%], cobaltous nitrate hexahydrate [Co(NO3)2·6H2O, 98%], and RhB were purchased from Adamas-Beta; tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP, 97%) was purchased from TCI; polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP; average molecular weight: ca. 40 000) and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich; EtOH (99.8%), trifluoroacetic acid (TFA, 99%), formic acid (FA), acetic acid (AA), nitric acid (HNO3), hydrofluoric acid (HF) and hydrochloric acid (HCl) were purchased from General-Reagent. Ultra-pure water was obtained from a Milli-Q System.

Zinc nitrate hexahydrate (Zn(NO3)2·6H2O, 99%, Adamas), cobalt nitrate hexahydrate (Co(NO3)2·6H2O, 97.7%, Alfa Aesar), 2-methylimidazole (2-MeIm, 99%, Acros), methanol (CH3OH, 99.9%, Adamas), potassium hydroxide (KOH, 85%, Nanjing Reagent), Nafion (5 wt%, Alfa Aesar), carbon paper (SGL 10BC, Germany), 20 wt% platinum supported on Vulcan XC-72 carbon (Pt/C, Premetek) and 20 wt% iridium on Vulcan XC-72 carbon (Ir/C, Premetek) were used as received without any further purification. Ultrapure water (≥18 MΩ cm−1), obtained from a Milli Q Plus water purification system (Millipore, USA), was used throughout the experiment.

Electrochemical Sensing of Biomolecules

Phosphate buffer saline (PBS, 0.1 M, pH 7.0) was purchased from Source Leaf Biotechnology (Shanghai, China). Potassium ferricyanide (K3Fe(CN)6, ≥99.5%), isopropyl alcohol (≥99.7%) and potassium chloride (KCl, 99.5%) were provided by Aladdin (Shanghai, China). Dopamine hydrochloride (DA) and uric acid (UA, ≥99%) were obtained from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA). l-Ascorbic acid (AA, >99%) citric acid (CA, 99.5%), l-cysteine (l-Cys, 99%), sodium carbonate (Na2CO3, 99.5%), calcium chloride (CaCl2, 99.99%), and magnesium sulfate (MgSO4, 99.5%) were bought from Macklin (Shanghai, China). Ethanol, zinc nitrate hexahydrate (Zn(NO3)2·6H2O, 99%), cobalt nitrate hydrate (Co(NO3)2·6H2O, 99%), dibasic sodium phosphate (Na2HPO4) and 2-methylimidazole (C4H6N2, 98%) were obtained from Adamas (Shanghai, China). All of the chemicals were used without further purification. The water used in the experiments was obtained from a Milli-Q system (18.2 MΩ cm−1).
