The combined effect of the compounds and clinically relevant antimicrobial drugs was evaluated by determining the antibiotic MIC in the presence of each compound. Briefly, the MIC of cefotaxime (CTX) (Duchefa Biochemie, Haarlem, The Netherlands) was determined in the presence of the highest concentration of each compound tested that did not affect bacterial growth of E. coli SA/2 when the compound was used alone. The antibiotic tested was serially diluted, whereas the concentration of each compound was kept fixed at 64 µg/mL, which were later converted to µM. Antibiotic MICs were determined as described above.
Cefotaxime ctx
Cefotaxime (CTX) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Culturing and Characterizing Microorganisms
Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), phosphate-buffered saline (PBS; pH 7.4), ethidium bromide (EB), reserpine, and crystal violet (CV) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich Chemie GmbH (Steinheim, Germany). Doxorubicin 2 mg/mL was purchased from Teva Pharmaceuticals, Budapest, Hungary. The antibiotics cefotaxime (CTX) was purchased from Duchefa Biochemie, Haarlem, The Netherlands, and vancomycin (VAN) from Oxoid, Basingstoke, England.
About PubCompare
Our mission is to provide scientists with the largest repository of trustworthy protocols and intelligent analytical tools, thereby offering them extensive information to design robust protocols aimed at minimizing the risk of failures.
We believe that the most crucial aspect is to grant scientists access to a wide range of reliable sources and new useful tools that surpass human capabilities.
However, we trust in allowing scientists to determine how to construct their own protocols based on this information, as they are the experts in their field.
