(China). Titanium trichloride (TiCl3, 15–20%) was purchased from Sigma Aldrich. Ultra-pure Milli-Q water (18.2 MΩ cm) was used throughout the study.

Gold(III) chloride tetrahydrate (HAuCl4·4H2O, 99.95%), ascorbic acid (AA, 99.7%), hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB, 99.0%) and hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC, 98.0%) were purchased from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent Co., Ltd. The water used in all experiments was deionized. All the chemical reagents were used as received without further purification.

The mouse interleukin 12 (IL-12), mouse tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) uncoated enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits, FITC-labeled F4/80, PE-labeled CD206 and APC-labeled CD86 monoclonal antibody were purchased from Thermo Fisher Scientific.

ELISA kits from Neobioscience Technology (Shenzhen, China) were obtained to detect the IFN‐γ, TNF‐α, IL‐12, and IL‐2.
