Generating Mouse Models for Immunological Studies

Wild-type (WT) mice (C57BL/6) were from The Jackson Laboratory (Bar Harbor, ME). Rag2^−/− and Rag2^−/−Il2rg^−/− mice were from Taconic Farms. CARD9^−/− and Act1^−/− (also known as CIKS^−/−) mice were generated as described (11 (link), 35 (link)). IL-17RA^−/− mice were from Amgen, and IL-23p19^−/− mice were from Genentech. Dectin-1^−/− and Dectin-2^−/− mice on a C57BL/6 background were generated as described (36 (link), 37 (link)). All experiments included age- and sex-matched controls on the C57BL/6 background. Protocols were approved by the University of Pittsburgh Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee or the University of Aberdeen Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Body and the UK Home Office and adhered to guidelines in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of the National Institutes of Health.
