- Intervention (dietary fiber supplement vs. placebo)
- Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c)
- Participants aged 10-25 years
- Diagnosed with Y-T2DM by the American Diabetes Association criteria
- Tanner stage IV or V
- HbA1c ≤8%
- Negative for diabetes-related autoantibodies (GAD-65 and IA-2 autoantibodies)
- No consumption of ≥ 2 or more servings of ≥6 oz of yogurt per day
- No chronic GI disease
- No gastric bypass surgery
- No cancer diagnosis or auto-immune disease
- No chronic insulin therapy within 3 months of the study
- No use of antibiotics, immunosuppressants, hormonal contraceptives, lipid-lowering agents, proton-pump inhibitors, supraphysiologic systemic steroids, cholesterol medications, prebiotics, or probiotics in the previous month at time of screening
