Macrolide antibiotics, GTP, pyruvate kinase: lactate dehydrogenase (PK:LDH), phosphoenolpyruvate, and NADH were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (Oakville, ON, Canada). Molecular biology kits and organic solvents were purchased from Fisher Scientific (Ottawa, ON, Canada). Telithromycin was purified from the drug formulation Ketek (400 mg, Sanofi-Aventis US)^{36 (link)}.
