Measurement of Inflammatory Cytokines

Interleukin-IL-6, IL-1β, and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNFα) levels were determined using ELISA assay kits (Cat. 501030, 583311 and 589201, respectively, Cayman Chemical, Ann Arbor, MI, USA), based on the double-antibody “sandwich” technique in accordance with the manufacturer’s instruction. The methods have been previously described in detail [36 (link),37 (link),43 (link)]. Plasma levels of inflammatory markers in pg/mL were then calculated according to the optical density of each well.
