The mice were euthanized using carbon dioxide overdose. The liver, intestine, and epididymal white adipose tissue (EWAT) were harvested, fixed in 4% formaldehyde, paraffin-embedded, sectioned, and stained using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) or immunohistochemistry (IHC). IHC was performed as previously described [19 (link)]. The appropriate volume of primary anti-cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) (1:100, GTX100642, GeneTex) antibody was added to cover the specimen and the samples were incubated at 4 °C overnight. Nuclei were stained with hematoxylin. The images were captured using Pannoramic MIDI II (3DHISTECH Ltd., Budapest, Hungary).
