Pyruvate Tolerance Test Protocol

The animals were fasted overnight, and then, pyruvate (Sigma) was administered intraperitoneally (2 g/kg body weight) between 9am and 10am. Blood samples were collected from the cut tip of the tail at 0, 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 min. The blood glucose concentration was measured using Accu-Chek Active glucometer (Roche Diagnostic, Rotkreuze, Switzerland). The glucose response during the pyruvate tolerance test was calculated by estimating the total area under the glucose curve^{11 (link)}.
