Quantitative Bone Resorption Assay

Bone resorption assays were performed as previously described^{44 (link)}. Briefly, BMMs seeded on dentine discs (Osteosite Dentine Discs, Immunodiagnostic Systems Inc., Boldon, UK) were stimulated with RANKL for seven days. After removing cells by treating the dentine discs with 5% sodium hypochlorite for 10 min and wiping with cotton swab, the discs were photographed. The areas and depths of the resorption pits were measured with a Carl Zeiss LSM 5-PASCAL laser-scanning microscope (Carl Zeiss Microimaging GmbH, Goettingen, Germany).
