Tissues of colon and liver were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde, embedded in paraffin, cut into 3 μm sections, and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). Morphological assessments of stained slides were performed with the Leica Qwin image analyzer system. Histological scoring was blindly performed by two researchers using the degree of surface epithelial loss, crypt destruction and inflammatory cell infiltration into the mucosa, scoring from 0 to 12 [14 (link)].
