Lung tissues were homogenized and RNA was isolated using TRI reagent (Sigma, St. Louis, MO, USA). RNA was reverse transcribed with a Reverse Transcription Kit (Thermo, Waltham, MA, USA). Quantitative real-time PCR analysis was performed with a spectrofluorometric thermocycler (Bio-Rad, San Francisco, CA, USA) and a SYBR Green PCR Master Mix kit (Thermo), as described previously [30 (link),32 (link)].
