Synthesis and Characterization of Hydrazone and Azine Derivatives

4-Methoxysalicylaldehyde hydrazone (2),^{20 (link)} 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol (3),^{18 (link)} tris(N-4-methoxysalicylideneaniline) (4),^{18 (link)} and 4-methoxysalicylaldehyde azine (5)^16b were prepared according to procedures reported previously. All solvents and chemicals were obtained from commercial sources and used without further purification. ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectra were recorded using JEOL ECA-600II spectrometer with DMSO-d₅ (2.49 ppm for ¹H NMR) and DMSO-d₆ (39.5 ppm for ¹³C NMR) as internal references. Mass spectra were recorded using a JEOL JMS-700T spectrometer. Infrared (IR) spectra were recorded using a JASCO FT/IR-4100 spectrometer. UV-vis absorption spectra were recorded using a HITACHI U-3900H spectrometer. Fluorescence spectra were recorded using a JASCO FP-8500 spectrophotometer.
