Ozone Exposure Protocol for Mice

We used plexiglass chamber (EMB 104, EMMS^®) to expose mice at 1 ppm for 1 h in all studies as described before (36 (link)). Ozone is generated from an ozonizer (Ozonizator Ozonizer S 500 mg, Sander^®) and its level of 1.0 ppm was controlled by an ozone sensor (ATI 2-wire transmitter, Analytical Technology^®). Mice were euthanized by progressive CO₂ inhalation for 24 h after ozone exposure and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) was collected. Lungs were collected for further analyses after a cardiac perfusion with ISOTON II (acid-free balanced electrolyte solution Beckman Coulter, Krefeld, Germany).
