Patients were recruited between March 2015 and March 2017. Patients were included if they were ≥40 years of age and already receiving aspirin therapy with angiographically proven multivessel coronary artery disease, defined as at least 2 major epicardial vessels with any combination of either: 1) >50% luminal stenosis; or 2) previous revascularization (percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass graft surgery). Patients were excluded if they had any of the following criteria: an acute coronary syndrome within the last 12 months, any ongoing indication for dual antiplatelet therapy, concurrent thienopyridine (clopidogrel or prasugrel) or oral anticoagulant therapy, or percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass graft surgery within the last 3 months.
