Spectroscopic Analysis of Natural Pigments

The absorption spectra of the extracts were evaluated with wavelengths in the range 200–700 nm by means of an ultraviolet (UV)-visible spectrophotometer (SPECTROstar Nano; BMG LABTECH, Offenburg, Germany) (22 (link), 23 (link)). For, ¹H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra, the extracts (1 mg) were dissolved in deuterated dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO-d6)/deuterium oxide (D₂O) and the spectral data were recorded on an Avance 300 MHz NMR spectrometer (Bruker, Rheinstetten, Germany). Structural elucidation of the pigments was accomplished by comparison of the ¹H NMR spectra as described by Choi et al. (22 (link)) and Sobolev et al. (24 (link)).
