Synthesis and Characterization of MEHA SAMs

MEHA was simply synthesized by the reaction of heptanoic acid (Sigma Aldrich, St.Louis, MO, USA) and 2-aminoethanethiol (Tokyo Chemical Industry, Tokyo, Japan) according to a reported literature method [58 (link)] and was confirmed via ¹H NMR. DT [CH₃(CH2)₉SH] was purchased from Tokyo Chemical Industry, Japan. The synthetic details can be found in the Supporting Information (Figures S1 and S2). Single-crystal Au(111) substrates for SAMs were prepared by the thermal deposition of gold on mica under UHV conditions of ~10⁻⁶ Pa at 623 K [6 (link)].
