HEK293 human kidney cells were cultured in Dulbecco’s modified Eagle medium (DMEM) and high-glucose GlutaMax culture medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) at 37 °C, 5% CO2. The cells (0.5 × 106) were seeded in each well of 48-well plates (Thermo Fisher Scientific Nunc coated with poly-d-lysine in-house) 24 h prior to transduction with the baculoviruses. To stimulate the expression of proteins, sodium butyrate was added with the viruses at a final concentration of 5 mM (as per in-house optimization).
