L-glutamine, L-pyruvate, penicillin, concanavalin A and streptomycin were from Serva (Heidelberg, Germany). Media components were purchased from Hi-media (Mumbai, India). Caerulomycin A was either procured from LKT Laboratories (St. Paul, MN) or was from actinomycetes, as described elsewhere18 (link).
