MMP activity was assessed in vivo using MMPSense 750 FAST (PerkinElmer, Waltham, MA, United States), an activatable fluorescent imaging agent for MMP-2, -3, -7, -9, -12, and -13 according to the manufacturer’s instructions (2 nmol/subject i.v.). Measurements were performed with IVIS Lumina II (PerkinElmer, Waltham, MA, United States; auto acquisition time, Binning = 2, F/stop = 1, excitation/emission filter: 745/800 nm) 6 h later. ROIs were applied around the ankles and fluorescence was expressed as radiant efficiency ([photons/s/cm²/sr]/[μW/cm²]) (Borbély et al., 2015 (link)).
