Murine microvascular brain endothelial cells (cerebEND) [23 (link),24 (link),25 (link),26 (link)] were grown in Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM) supplied with 1% penicillin/streptomycin and 10% fetal calf serum (FCS) on gelatin-coated 6- or 96-well plates (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Waltham, MA, USA). They were cultured in a 37 °C incubator (Heracell VIOS 250i, Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA) until 95% confluent as observed under the microscope.
