Isolation and Purification of High-Quality Total RNA

Total RNA was isolated from cells using Trizol reagent (Life Technologies, Paisley, UK) and purified using MaXtract High Density (QIAGEN, Redwood City, CA). RNA yield and quantity were determined using a Nanodrop spectrophotometer ND-1000 (Thermo Scientific, Wilmington, DE). The RNA quality was tested using an ND-1000 V3.7.1, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and assigned an RNA integrity number (RIN). Only samples with an RNA integrity number (RIN) of 8 or greater were employed as was previously described^{51 (link)}.
