Synthesis of Aldehyde 7 from Phthalimide 5 and Hydroxybenzaldehyde 6

A mixture of phthalimide 5 (1 mmol), hydroxybezaldehyde derivative 6 (1 mmol), and K₂CO₃ (1.3 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was heated at 80 °C for 8 h. Upon completion of the following reaction, the mixture was poured into crushed ice, and the precipitate was filtered off and dried, affording aldehyde 7 [28 (link)].
