Materials:

Cellulose filter paper (Whatman brand), was used as a cellulose substrate and was dried in a vacuum oven at 65° C. for 14 hours prior to use. 2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid (Bis-MPA), allyl bromide, thionyl chloride (SOCl₂), N,N′-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC), pyridine, 4-dimethyl(aminopyridine) (DMAP) 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecanethiol, 1-decanethiol, 2-mercaptoethanol, 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenyl-acetophenone (DMPA) were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. Trimethylamine (Et₃N), toluene, dichloromethane (DCM), dry DCM and ethyl alcohol were purchased from Bio-lab ltd. Concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) pellets were purchased from Merck. All the materials were used as received.
