The rat aortic endothelial cells (RAECs) line was purchased from American Type Collection Center (ATCC). RAECs were cultured in RPMI medium 1640 basic (1×) (Gibco, USA), containing 10% of fetal bovine serum (Gibco, USA) and 1% penicillin–streptomycin (Gibco, USA). The cells were incubated in 5% CO2 at 37°C.
Simvastatin (sigma) was dissolved in 95% ethanol and 0.1 M NaOH, heating at 50°C for 2 h, and neutralizing with HCl to pH 7.2 as described previously [11 (link)]. HMGB1 inhibitor glycyrrhizin (Gly) was purchased from Aladdin was dissolved in 1% ethanol and adjusted to PH7.2 with 1M NaOH [8 (link)].
