Plasma and Brain Lipid Extraction

Total lipid extraction was based on the BUME method for plasma [17 (link)] and animal tissue [18 (link)]. The plasma phospholipids or brain total lipids were subjected to acid transesterification for the preparation of fatty acid methyl esters and analyzed on an Agilent 7820/5975 GC–MS system (Agilent Technologies, Palo Alto, CA, US). Fatty acid methyl esters were identified based on the retention times and mass spectra of authentic standards (Larodan, Solna, Sweden). Quantification was performed in Agilent MassHunter Workstation Quantitative analysis software Version 10.0 (Agilent Technologies). Fatty acids are expressed as weight% of all analyzed fatty acids.
